Weekly Schedule

Working as a highly engaged neurosurgeon, ten hours per day, with a weekly schedule as follows:

  • One day as consultant surgeon participating in the on-call roster (out-of-hours emergency call).
  • One day per week in the operating theatre for various neurosurgical cases: tumours, injuries, congenital malformations, spine, orbital surgery and others. Areas of focus: endoscopic neurosurgery, spine surgery and pain interventions.
  • One day for training trainers from various specialties and medical grades, and different health professions and occupational groups, clinically and theoretically in groups on the management of critical cases and Advanced Life Support.
  • One day for outpatient consultations to receive various referrals from hospitals, health centres and private clinics related to neurosurgery.
  • One day for outpatient consultations at Basra Specialised Oncology Centre to receive tumours related to the nervous system and intractable pain requiring control.
  • One day for pain interventions.

Pain Management Interventions

Given growing interest in pain management, we perform various interventions for controlling intractable pain, including:

  1. Regional blocks
  2. Neurolytic procedures
  3. Radiofrequency ablation
  4. Sympathetic blocks, including:
    • Coeliac ganglion
    • Ganglion impar
    • Thoracic sympathetic
    • Stellate ganglion
    • Superior hypogastric plexus
    • Lumbar sympathetic
  5. Sacroiliac joint injections

International Workshops and Conferences

Spine workshops:

  • 2nd International Advanced Training Course on Professor Destandau’s Technique on the development of endoscopic use in spine surgery, 13–14 November 2009, Chandigarh, India. During this course there was practical application of endoscopy on intensive cadaveric workshops under the direct supervision of Professor Destandau for various disc herniations in the cervical and lumbar regions. The workshop was organised at the Endoscopic Spine Centre, Gian Sagar Medical College Hospital, Chandigarh, India.
  • Middle East Society for Advancement and Innovation: Innovations and Cadaveric Bioskills workshops in Beirut, Lebanon, 23–26 June 2010, under the supervision of Boston University Medical School. The course presented new lectures on spine surgery with intensive cadaveric workshops on various recent spinal approaches, including minimally invasive techniques for cervical and back operations, spinal internal fixation, kyphoplasty, vertebroplasty, vertebral osteotomy, endoscopic discectomy, epidural stimulation and injections, and sympathetic and median nerve block injections.
  • Minimally Invasive Spine Workshop conducted by DePuy on 27 February 2012 in Zug, Switzerland.

  • Interventional Pain Management Concept Course. Basic and Advanced Pain Management Conference and Workshop, 15–16, Ahmedabad, India 2013.
  • Fellowship in Interventional Pain Management from Mobi Pain Clinic, Mumbai, India 2013.
  • American Society for Pain Management workshop on ultrasound-guided pain interventions, 18–19 January, Tampa, Florida 2014. It included injections using ultrasound instead of fluoroscopy for all pain conditions related to the spinal cord and sympathetic nerves.
  • 20th Annual Advanced Pain Conference by the European Board, 24–26 August, Hungary.
